Episode 3: Sir David Bell KCB DL

In an amazing career spanning over 40 years, Sir David Bell has held a number of major posts across the UK Education system.

Between 2012 and 2018, he was Vice-Chancellor at Reading University, preceding his current role of Vice-Chancellor & Chief Executive at the University of Sunderland. Previously he was Permanent Secretary at the Department of Education, serving four Secretaries of State and three Prime Ministers.

He also served as Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools for nearly four years. In addition to his Education Leadership, he currently Chairs Karbon Homes, a major Regulated Registered Provider of Social & Affordable Homes in the North of England, together with numerous charitable and voluntary Trustee roles.

Sir David was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 2011, and has been made a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Tyne & Wear.

In this Episode, Sir David gives incredible insights into Leadership across many different sectors, including working right at the heart of Government. He discusses how he has managed to maintain his Leadership principles and how to operate effectively in any organisation.
